Political leaders should answer environmental issues

It’s easy to report political news. But environmental issues are not reported like that. Karnataka Media Academy President Ayesha Khanam opined that a study is needed for this. She spoke on July 15 while inaugurating a workshop on “Creating Climate Narratives; Sustainable Development and Responsible Journalism”. It is the responsibility of journalists to present environmental issues and problems in a way that people can understand. She asserted that in such cases, things should not be romanticized.
If untimely snowfall starts in Kashmir, it seems beautiful and romantic to tourists who have gone there. But in reality, it is not a romantic matter for the locals. It is a series of problems. It disrupts daily life. In such cases, if journalists see and write about snowfall from the perspective of tourists, it becomes romantic and reality is hidden.
In this direction, journalists should look at environmental issues on a scientific and human basis. They should understand the existing problem and report it. Only then will people be able to know the truth, she said.
We should observe how political leaders and world leaders present environmental issues. They should study a specific problem or case and report it to the people. She said.
Politicians have the responsibility to answer environmental problems. Because they make policies. They have the power to make laws. In such a situation, journalists should question them about anti-environmental projects.
Vijay Mohan Raj, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Karnataka, senior journalist Nagesh Hegde, Director of the Institute of Environmental Management and Policy Development (EMPRI) Dr. Pramod Katti were present. “EMPRI” Director T. Mahesh welcomed.
The “EMPRI” , which operates under the Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, Government of Karnataka, has organized a workshop for journalists on “Creating Climate Narratives; Sustainable Development and Responsible Journalism”. Journalists from different districts of Karnataka participated.
